Police Charge Down's Syndrome Boy With Racist Assault

We've heard it all now: An 18 year old with the mental age of a five year old gets into a scuffle with a similarly disabled woman at a special needs college. As the girl happens to be Asian, the Scottish prosecutor filed a racial assault case. Someone - it is not clear who - went to the length of putting advertisements in the local press calling for witnesses to this "racial assault."

 

The alleged victim reportedly confessed to police that she had marked her own face to land her "assailant" in trouble: Both were reprimanded by the college following the incident, and that appeared to be the end of matters. Enter Plod.

The boy's parents claim that the assault was merely a shove; however, police pursued the case, charging him apparently on the orders of Scotland's Procurator Fiscal. The case was quietly dropped after seven months. But still...
