In America the tallest quarter of the population earns nine-to-ten per cent more than the shorter quarter. This is the conclusion of two recent studies by the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Michigan.

The joint verdict is that greater height gives adolescents self-confidence and helps them learn 'valuable social skills'.

Many medical inspectors and academics over the past two centuries have come to agree more-or-less on the economics of male and female height. Tall people are richer on average. They may also be 'smarter'.

Of course, build and brains depends on both genetics and the nourishment a child receives.

Aldolphe Quetelet, a 19th century mathematician, attempted to explain the phenomenon of height by writing it is God's "curve of error".

However, let us not forget that so-called short people can accomplish a lot. A certain Emperor Napoleon, renowned for his modest stature, succeeded in conquering most of Europe.
