Thanks to Daniel Hannan for picking up on this story about how advocates of the EU's Lisbon Treaty have been caught telling porkies on the length of the new Constitution Treaty.

The volume containing the new Treaty is touted to be shorter and slimmer than the rejected Constitution: 287 pages to 349. However, at 76,250 words, the Lisbon version is 8,500 words longer than its predecessor.

What sleight of hand allowed the Lisbon Constitution Treaty to be termed a "slimmed-down" treaty?

Simple, actually. England Expects reported that one MEP was overheard saying that they slimmed the Constitution down by making the font size smaller. The blog has examples from the text. Do check it out.
