Welcome to 2008! It's election year in the US: EURSOC's correspondent Chris Timmers polls on the likely outcome as both parties start choosing their candidates.
Well, for our European friends, it gets down to this:  who will win the initial contest in the Iowa Caucuses?

Based upon my interviews with people in the know the results will be this: (don't hold your breath)

For the Democrats

Not Hillary (i.e., either Obama or Edwards, more likely Obama)

For the Republicans

Romney

Sounds simple, doesn't it? The Clinton campaign has continued to falter and cannot assemble a cohesive response to Obama and who could have ever expected Edwards to surge?

For the Republicans, the Romney campaign is better organized and financed than either the the Republican or Democratic challengers could ever hope for.

So that's it folks:  as of the Iowa Causeses it's Romney vs the non-Hillary campaign.

Stay tuned for later details.
