Police were called in to investigate a local carnival in Cornwall following complaints from six visiting students that one group of performers was offensive to Muslims.

The offending group included several locals dressed up in burqhas and robes, carrying signs declaring themselves to be "Page Three Beauties from the Ramalamadingdong Times". One claimed "her" name was "Miss Reallyamanistan."

They say they were indulging in some light-hearted protest against the Prince of Wales' plans to build a mosque in a nearby settlement. Many locals oppose the plans, because there are only 33 faithful among a population of 22,000.

Still, the students, who are by and large not known for their good humour or tolerance, made their distaste known to the parade organisers and called the police. The police didn't act, as they say they did not receive an official complaint; one of the marchers said he apologised if any offence had been caused but that the display was meant as a bit of fun. He said that the marchers were mocking themselves, more than anything else. Would that many of Britain's nauseatingly self-righteous students had a better sense of how ridiculous they look.
