"Axis Of Unity"
Venezuela's Hugo Chavez and Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have introduced a series of economic cooperation projects, announcing a grand "axis of unity" designed to "defeat the imperialism of North America."
Reuters reports a petrochemicals plant is in the works. More "brotherly" cooperation is planned.
Iran needs allies, particularly as sanctions begin to sting; Chavez is determined to build an "anti-globalisation" union of nations opposed to the US and does not seem to care where he gets it. However, association with the fascistic regime in Iran might cheer Chavistas back home where the threat posed by a nuclear Iran is quite distant. Those who support or sympathise with Chavez's regime in the west are sure to feel uncomfortable about their hero's links with the barbaric Ahmadinejad, who raves about bringing a holy apocalypse down on his enemies.
