The Other Woman
The French blogosphere buzzes with the name of the journalist Socialist leader François Hollande is rumoured to be having an affair with
Once upon a time, French voters were kept in the dark about their leaders' affairs. Some members of the elite might have argued the public liked it that way, preferring discretion over the Anglo-Saxon kiss-and-tell tradition - while all the time the restaurants and cafés frequented by the political and media classes rang with gossip about who was having an affair with whom.
The internet has put an end to that. On Sunday, Ségolène Royal announced that she had booted her partner of 29 years out of the house, adding that he was free to enjoy his romantic life alone. The press tentatively reported that Hollande was having an affair... but with whom?
According to Britain's Daily Mail and several hundred French blogs, it is none other than Paris Match and Direct 8 journalist Valérie Trierweiler.
The gorgeous Mme Trierweiler reports on Socialist Party affairs - ha ha - and has written several profiles of her portly alleged lover. Here's one of them, where she writes of the "secrets" beneath his jovial and loquacious facade.
That's her in the photo above. EURSOC thinks she is hotter than Ségo. What do you lot think?
It is worth noting, too, that Mme Trierweiler and M Hollande are far from the first happy union of the political and media worlds. In December, EURSOC published a round-up of government figures linked with journalists: The list was by no means comprehensive, sticking mainly to those who had gone public... perhaps the French internet, the nation's only wholly democratic news media, will supply us with more before too long!
