Backbench Bloggers
The BBC reports that conservative bloggers may be given a reservation at the next Conservative Party conference.
Tories were impressed by the attention bloggers won at US Democratic and Republican get-togethers. Moreover, the rise of a number of influential conservative-leaning blogs is said to have encouraged senior Tories to invite their authors in and tap their brains. So far, no confirmation from Central Office, but the Beeb interviews Iain Dale and the people behind Conservative Home so presumably they're the most likely candidates.
While British blogs have not yet had the impact that US bloggers have enjoyed, a number of political blogs have become essential reading for MPs and political insiders.
Since Conservative Home's Tim Montgomerie recently embarrassed the leadership by piecing together the party's ludicrous A-List of fashionable candidates, it is to be hoped that the David Cameron's advisers are not following John Major's famous strategy of having potential troublemakers "inside the tent, pissing out, rather outside pissing in."
