What better way to start the year than news that both Britain and the USA have been named endemic surveillance societies by rights watchdog Privacy International.


The Brits and Americans share this honour with China and Vladimir Putin's Russia. Britain in particular is singled out as having the "world leading surveillance schemes."

African Leaders Cheer Mugabe

Depressing news for anyone who thought that Robert Mugabe's fellow African leaders are the key to pressuring the old man to change his ways. On arrival in Lusaka, Zambia for a conference of Southern African leaders, Mugabe was welcomed with cheers and applause from his peers and their circle.

It's A Gas

Europe's "sleeping gas thieves" strike again, according to a story in the Telegraph. This time it is reported that the UK's Foreign Office is warning Brits camping in France to install alarms on their caravan doors, following claims that tourists are being gassed by thieves who clean out their mobile homes while they are knocked out.
